VCARS.co.uk D1 Women preview: Sevenoaks visit Northumbria

Thursday, 25-Oct-2012

D1 WomenSevenoaks Suns have an immediate opportunity to rectify their disappointing 55-37 home loss to Barking Abbey last week as they travel to Team Northumbria in the lone VCARS.co.uk Division 1 Women game this weekend.

Suns' coach Len Busch will be hoping for an improved offensive performance from the one last weekend that saw only Kristine Lewis crack double-figures with 15 points.

The teams' finished one win apart in the league last season, with Northumbria's 2-1 edge in the season series proving to be the difference between them as they recorded 9 league wins in comparison to Sevenoaks' 8.

The margins of victory got progressively wider over the course of the season last time around, with Northumbria doing better in each successive game. Suns won 75-74 in Newcastle in November, followed by Northumbria winning 75-62 in Kent in February. The series was completed with a 82-53 home victory for Northumbria in March.

Northumbria have a similar looking squad to that of last year, with Ta'Yani Clark back for another season after finshing in the top five in scoring (5th), rebounding (1st) and assisting (2nd) last season. They do have a new coach in Josh Merrington, who has moved over from the playing side of the men's team.

A loss for Suns would put them at 0-2 for the league season facing the prospect of a trip to Sheffield Hatters the following weekend.
