Nottingham Wildcats sign two Europeans

Tuesday, 23-Oct-2012

Nottingham Wildcats have signed two new European players to their VCARS.co.uk Division 1 Women team for the 2012/13 season.

Guards Helene Biboum Biboum (France) and Monica Vale de Gato (Portugal) will join the Wildcats ranks in place of the departed Sarah Taylor and Abigail Wentworth.

Biboum Biboum, who played in the French national league last season with Tronche Meylan BCTM, was also a member of the Cameroonian national team and is now studying at Lincoln University.

"I came to England to study business and law in the context of a French exchange with Lincoln University and learn to speak English," said Biboum Biboum. "But I have also come to play basketball. I chose to play for the team in Nottingham because of the structure and management, as well as the family atmosphere of the club, which I really enjoy. Having the chance to play in a team with a good atmosphere is important for my progress and future success."

Vale de Gato is also studying in the midlands (at Nottingham Trent University) and like Biboum Biboum has national teams experience, having been selected for Portugal's U16 team in 2006.

"Since I knew I was coming to study in Nottingham and wanted to keep playing basketball, I started searching for basketball clubs and discovered Wildcats," she said.

"Everyone told me a lot of good things about the club and they made me feel at home. I'm really excited for this season. The team is a great group of players and I really think that this season we will make magic happen.

"Having a team with players from different cultures and ages will make us even stronger. I'm really looking forward to giving my best to this wonderful basketball club."

Nottingham Wildcats get underway this coming weekend with a Women's National Cup second round game against second division Ipswich Bobcats.
