Monday, 22-Oct-2012

The first game of the VCARS.co.uk Division 1 Women’s league saw Barking Abbey handle Sevenoaks Suns 55-37 in Kent.

In her first English national league game since 2007/08, Georgia Jones (pictured) scored 22 points to lead all scorers as her Barking Abbey club controlled the majority of the match-up. Jones recently completed her university degree at Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma and her last competitive national league match in England was with her hometown Manchester Mystics in 2008.

Barking led 29-11 at the half, holding Suns to single digits in both opening quarters including a lowly three points in the second period.

Shanice Norton (11) and Rosalee Mason (10) also hit double digits for coach Mark Clark's team as they got off to a winning start.

Kristine Lewis scored 15 for Sevenoaks and was the only Sun in double figures.
