Women's National Cup: Teams advance comfortably

Monday, 15-Oct-2012

The first round of the Women's National Cup saw a set of one-sided results as the winners eased into round two.

The game with the lowest margin of victory (11 points) saw Division 1's Barking Abbey defeat second-tiered London Westside 64-53 backed by Roz Mason's 22 points. A 22-13 final quarter for Westside made the scoreline more respectable for the visitors on Saturday.

All other Division 1 teams rolled past their opposition this weekend.

Leeds Carnegie defeated Bury Blue Devils 99-41, Loughborough Students Riders hammered Birmingham Mets 109-44, Team Northumbria beat up on Sunderland City 116-22 and NASSA Stars cruised by Brixton Topcats 83-27.

The all-Division 2 match-ups were slightly closer but still ventured into double figures.

Angelina Browne-Akinyemi scored 32 of Northamptonshire Titans' 60 points as her team beat Bromsgrove Bears 60-42. Ipswich Bobcats won all four quarters to eliminate Oaklands College Wolves 50-34 and a 25-7 third quarter propelled Reading Rockets past Oxford 62-41.
