London United won a thriller in Derbyshire on Saturday, defeating the hometown Arrows
87-86 to move to 2-1.
Andy Tamayo scored the winning points with a three pointer inside the last minute as both teams failed to take their remaining opportunities due to turnovers and missed shots.
It was Arrows who started the stronger as 12 points from Svetoslav Alexandrov and a trio of three pointers from American Rob Valentine saw them establish a 21-9 lead. United chipped away at the lead and by the midway point of the second quarter had briefly led themselves and were completely back in the game.
Back-to-back threes from Tamayo put United up again, but eight straight points from Valentine - including a pair of threes - had Arrows up 49-44 at half-time.
Arrows pushed the lead out to 12 in the early stages of the second half, only for United to hit back again with a 19-6 run to end the third period that saw them in front going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter proved to be a tense affair with neither team being able to grab a lead bigger than five points. A 7-0 run for United had them up by two as the 2 minute mark approached, but a pair of Valentine free throws put Arrows up by two inside the last minute.
Tamayo responded with his fifth and final three pointer for the last points of the game to end with 25. James Kelly and Alexandrov had shots to win the game for Arrows, but couldn't get the ball to drop.
Alejandro Cue supported Tamayo well with 24 points. Alexandrov finished with 29 points for Arrows and Valentine had 22 on 6 of 10 three point shooting.
