North West win U17 Regional Development Tournament for third straight year
Monday, 10-Sep-2012

North West defeated London for the second straight year in the U17 Boys Regional Development Tournament (RDT) held at Nottingham Wildcats Arena on 8/9 September.
The North West boys, coached by Neal Hopkins, beat the capital team 67-63 in the final to take their third successive RDT title at that age group.
British Basketball High Performance Manager Warwick Cann said:
"The U17 RDT once again proved its value to the England talent pathway. There was noticeable improvement in the players' physical condition while new players were identified for national squads.
"The competitiveness of the tournament fed off the back of some good preparation work over the summer with clear improvement in skills and physical conditioning, especially for already identified players.
"I'd also like to add that the Regional coaches did a very good job preparing their teams to play to a British style of play. I was glad that there was a vast improvement in this area compared to 2011."
Event organiser Graham Blankley from England Basketball said:
“This was probably the closest ever Regional Development Tournament with every team in the tournament winning at least one game and Pool B having three teams on equal points from the Saturday league games.
“The final also turned out to be a close affair with the only undefeated team North West beating London by just 4 points, with London having pulled the game back to a one point affair in the last minute.
‘With 29 games and a very good attendance this was an exciting weekend of basketball.”
The weekend also featured the ‘British Shooting Competition’ won by Eddie Matthews from the North East. Matthews scored 13 from 22 three point shots in the allotted two minutes, closely followed by Toby Andrews from the East with 11 from 21.
