England in action at the FIBA 3x3 World Championship
Friday, 24-Aug-2012
The FIBA 3x3 World Championship kicked off on Thusday in Athens with England's Men and Women both in action.
The Men were impressive in picking up a pair of victories against Egypt (18-11) and Romania (16-14) to sit at the top of the Pool D standings after Day 1.
The Women were also impressive, but were unable to get a win under their belt as they went down to European superpowers Russia (13-8) and Spain (15-13) - with both of their opponents remaining unbeaten on the first day.
Both teams are due to play two games today with Men facing USA at 4:20pm and Turkey at 6:50pm and the Women squaring off against Romania at 4:20pm and Jordan at 6:10pm.
Today also sees the start of the mixed competition where England will be represented by Jamell Anderson, Myles Hesson, Georgia Jones and Cristal Turner in a game against two men and two women from Greece at 7:20pm.
If they progress past the Greeks, Round 2 of the competition will also be this evening at 8:40pm.
Throughout the tournament the action from Court 1 will be shown live on the internet through
greece2012.fiba.com, meaning today that the Men's contest against USA and the Women against Jordan will be watchable as well as the potential second round match of the Mixed competition.
