GB U20 Women lose to Portugal
Wednesday, 22-Aug-2012
Great Britain’s U20 Women moved to the bottom of the relegation table after a
66-39 loss to Portugal on Wednesday and now have a lot of work to do if they are to avoid going down to Division B next year.
GB actually had the better start in Hungary, leading 8-2 two and a half minutes into the game, but Portugal quickly erased that advantage and by the end of the first period they were in front 18-14.
Britain only managed another 25 points in total for the remaining three periods as they move to 0-3 in the 13th-16th place classification table after the loss.
Erin McGarrachan and Cheridene Green led GB with 11 points each with the former grabbing 8 rebounds and the latter 7. Daniela Domingues led the Portuguese with 20 points.
Coach Frans Griffioen and the British team have a day off on Thursday before rounding out their European Championship campaign with three games in a row starting Friday with Latvia.
