U18 men close on semi spot with win over Estonia

Wednesday, 15-Aug-2012

England U18 Men moved a step closer to the semi finals of the European Championship B Division on Wednesday with a 73-49 victory over Estonia.

An incredible second quarter which saw them hold the Estonians scoreless for ten minutes (including the end of the first quarter) powered them to a 35-20 half-time lead which they would not relinquish.

England scored 20 straight points as they forced their opponents into turnovers (5 in the run) or long range shots (10 missed threes in the run) to turn an early deficit into a commanding lead.

England led by as many as 20 in the third quarter and continued to pad the lead throughout the final quarter. Luke Nelson and Tyrell Isaacs both scored 12 points as Steve Bucknall's side outshot their opponents 53% to 32%.

A win for Israel in the earlier game in the group means that England are not certain to make the semi finals, but they would have to lose heavily to Czech Republic on Thursday to miss out on a spot in the last four.
