Thursday, 02-Aug-2012
England’s U18 Women have booked their place in the European Championship (Division B) semi-finals in Macedonia after a big fourth quarter saw them defeat Lithuania on Thursday, 72-62.
England looked healthy heading into halftime with their 42-25 lead but Lithuania won the third quarter 25-10 and by the end of three periods it was 52-50 in favour of England.
The game was still neck and neck midway through the final period until England put together a 14-4 run in the final five minutes to seal their place in the semi-final.
Cheridene Green had another big game for England with a 16 point, 13 rebound double-double and Shequila Joseph led all scorers with 18 points. Justina Kraujunaite was the highest amongst four Lithuanians who reached double digits in scoring with her 15 point haul.
Coach Len Busch and the English team now have a day off until the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, when they will face Hungary, Portugal or Bulgaria. Belarus will also compete in the semis, a team England lost narrowly to earlier in the tournament.
