U18 Women stun Germany with late surge
England's U18 Women maintained their push for a semi final spot and a shot at promotion to Division A with an enthralling, come from behind 81-76
win over Germany on Wednesday.
Shequila Joseph scored 13 of her 23 points in the final quarter as England overturned an eight point deficit in the final quarter thanks to a 11-3 end to the game.
England took their first lead since the opening quarter inside the last 90 seconds and they stayed cool from the line, sinking 6 straight free throws to clinch the win.
A pair of 8-0 runs from Germany earlier in the game had left England in a difficult position as they trailed by double figures and were still down by eight after three quarters.
Joseph poured in seven straight points, including a three point play to pull England within two with 6 minutes remaining and the teams traded baskets to leave Germany up by 3 with just over 2 minutes to go.
A three point shot from Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott tied up the scores and it was Joseph again who put England in front for good. Joseph was amongst the players who nailed a pair of free shots (Ashleigh Munns and Billie Lucas were the others) and England extended their lead from the stripe and held off any potential German comeback.
England will seal a spot in the semi finals if they defeat Lithuania in their next game on Thursday.
