U16 Women defeated by Germany
Wednesday, 18-Jul-2012
England's U16 Women tasted defeat again on Wednesday, going down
69-42 to Germany.
After a slow start, England hit back in the latter part of the first quarter and all of the second quarter to be down just 25-23 at half-time.
A 12-2 start to the third quarter by the Germans saw them pull away and they continued to pile on the points and deny England scoring opportunities to finish the third quarter 46-29 ahead.
Germany produced the best scoring quarter in the game in the fourth to prevent a comeback with Emma Stach leading the way on 22 points and 10 rebounds.
England were led by 9 points from Leah McDerment as eight players got on the score sheet.
Head of Performance Warwick Cann was positive about the experience so far of the U16's: "Division A was always going to be a huge step for England junior teams - everyone recognises that.
"The objective is to learn and adapt to that standard and to make progress in coaching and playing at a higher level. You have to fail first to succeed later.
"We are learning to be more competitive against the traditional powerhouses in Europe. At U16 Turkey, Germany and Serbia are in that category of nations."
