U18 Women win a pair against Lithuania

Wednesday, 18-Jul-2012

England U18 Women concluded a four day camp in Bristol with two wins over Lithuania on Monday and Tuesday.

In the first game on Monday night England rushed out to a 20 point second quarter lead and led by 18 at the half. Lithuania got hot from the three point line in the second half to make a game of it, but England managed to hold on for the 68-65 win.

England were led by Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby with 12, Shequila Joseph with 11, and Janice Monakana and Ashleigh Munns, both with 10.

In the rematch on Tuesday night, England won easily 65-49 playing much better defensively and never let Lithuania get in the game. On offence England were led by Cheridene Green with 17, Billie Lucas with 16 and Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott with 8.

Coach Len Busch commented: "We are very happy with our progress over the four days. The team continues to improve and the girls are working very hard. It was really good to see us come out in the second game and play our best game of the preparation period to date, despite being tired at the end of the camp.

To get two wins over a traditional basketball power who is seeking promotion back to Division A is a boost for our program. We just need to keep getting better."

The U18 Women are off to Finland on Thursday for two more games before heading to Macedonia next Tuesday for the FIBA Europe U18 Women European Championship B Division.
