Edmonton Leisure Centre to host EBL playoff finals

Monday, 29-Mar-2010

Edmonton Leisure Centre will host a set of England Basketball playoff finals for the first time on April 10, with four games scheduled on the day.

The four playoff finals include the Founders Cup, Division Three and Four Men, and the Division Two Women.

Action begins at 11:00am when returning champions Kingston Wildcats take on the London Lithuanians in a rematch of the 2008 Founders Cup Final, a competition open to local league teams. This year sees Kingston make their third consecutive Founders Cup Final, losing the title narrowly to Lithuanians in 2008 and winning in '09 after a 77-65 victory.

At 1:15pm, the Nottingham Hoods will look to turn their season record around against the Birmingham Mets in the Division 4 Men's playoff final. The Mets beat the Hoods in both league meetings this season and topped the Midlands table with a 16-0 record. However, Nottingham have added some experience since Christmas, signing ex-national league players Williamz Omope and Antony Haase, giving their roster a little extra 'beef' heading into the final.

This season's Women's National Trophy and Division 2 North league winners Stockport Lapwings will try to keep the trophy case stocked when they play the Solent Suns in the playoff final at 3:30pm. The Suns have fared well this season since dropping down from Div 1, winning the South West conference with an 11-3 record.

The final game of the day sees an all-London match-up as the Division 3 Men's playoffs conclude with 2010 Shield winners London United-Richmond College (LURC) playing South league winners Eastside Eagles. LURC and Eastside split their league meetings this year, with the former winning their Men's National Shield 3rd round match-up, before eventually taking the title against Bradford Dragons. Also, both teams carry former top level players in Andy Harper (LURC) and Errol Seaman (Eastside) so a high-scoring final looks on the cards for the final game in Edmonton.
