Sureshot National Cup Final - Under 16 Girls
Haringey Angels 71
Manchester Mystics 65
MVP - Chantel Charles, Haringey Angels
The Haringey Angels virtually led from tip to buzzer in Sunday's Sureshot Cup Final for Under 16 Girls and came away with a 71-65 win over the Manchester Mystics.
Playing nearly 40 minutes, Haringey's Chantel Charles picked up MVP honours with 16 points and 11 rebounds (7 offensive) in the win. Her teammate, Shequila Joseph, was the game's high scorer with 23 points while the Mystics' Ashley Tensel hit 22 for her team.
The game was by no means a blow-out for the London club, but the only time they trailed was early in the first quarter, 4-3.
Sureshot National Cup Finals - Under 18 Women
Sevenoaks Suns 34
Haringey Angels 51
MVP - Jamila Thompson, Haringey Angels
Haringey Angels made it two championships for the club on Sunday as they defeated the Sevenoaks Suns 51-34 in the Sureshot Cup Final for U18 Women, the second game at the Women's Day of Basketball 2010. The Angels' Under 16 squad won the Sureshot Cup in the day's first game at Nottingham's Wildcats Arena.
Haringey and England centre, Jamila Thompson, took the MVP award with her 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Her club and country teammate, Ella Clark, was close behind with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Maisie Elston was the lone Sun in double figures with 10 points in the loss.
The Suns managed to keep pace with Haringey for the first quarter as the teams traded baskets and ended the period locked at 15-15. However, Thompson opened the second with a two and the Angels never lost the lead from that point onwards, taking a 10-point advantage into the half.
The Angels' lead never dipped below double figures for the remainder of the game as the club added to their trophy shelf with the 2010 Cup championship.
Women's National Trophy Final
City of Sheffield Hallam-Hatters 58
Stockport Lapwings 75
MVP - Jade Lucas, Stockport Lapwings
The Stockport Lapwings held the Sheffield Hallam-Hatters scoreless for five minutes of the final quarter to take the 2010 Women's National Trophy championship, 78-55.
Stockport's Jade Lucas was selected as game MVP for her team-high 18 points on 50% shooting from the field and the charity stripe. Lucas was among four Lapwings that hit double digits in the Trophy Final on Sunday afternoon.
Stockport did hold a slight lead for the majority of the game, but the turning point came in the fourth when Sheffield's offence was shut down from the six minute mark until just over one minute remaining. The Lapwings strung 10 straight points together during this time, extending their seven point lead to seventeen.
Berit Gangstad led Sheffield's second team with 17 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lapwings out-rebounded their Yorkshire rivals 36-25 and took the 2010 Women's Trophy home.
Total Teamwear Women's All-Star Game
England 76
Rest of the World 92
MVP - Sabra Wrice, Rest of the World / Nottingham Wildcats
The Rest of the World took a three games to one series lead in the Total Teamwear Women's All-Star Game on Sunday, defeating England 92-76 in the final game of the 2010 Women's Day of Basketball.
Hometown Wildcat, Sabra Wrice, scored 20 points in her second All-Star appearance and walked away with the MVP award. Helen Naylor was the main offensive force for England, recoding a double-double of 21 points and rebounds.
The World team did most of the damage in the middle two quarters, outscoring England 51-28, taking a 72-49 lead into quarter number four.
There was no shortage of shots in the game, with England taking 88 and the Rest of the World 84, but the percentages were low, especially from outside the arc. Between them, the teams shot 5 for 37 from three point range.
However, all 19 players played roughly 20 minutes per game each and provided a great finish to the 2010 Women's Day of Basketball 2010.
