U16 MEN TO FACE BELGIUM IN LEICESTER - (12/07/2011)
England U16 Men will face Belgium in a three match series in Leicester for the second consecutive year.
Leicester City Council is hosting the competition at Braunstone Leisure Centre from Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 July 2011, supported by Leicester Warriors, who will be organising competitions around the event involving local young people.
Head Coach Simon Fisher stated: "I can't thank Leicester City Council and our other partners enough. The only way we are able to host an event of this nature is with the help of delivery partners. I am excited for the players who get to play at the highest level on home soil. I hope that people will come out and support them."
Spectators are invited to attend the game on Tuesday 19 July 2011. Tickets will be available on the door at a price of £3.
U16 MEN DEFEAT NETHERLANDS TWICE - (06/07/2011)
The U16 Men played Netherlands three times in Ipswich over the weekend of July 1 to 3 - winning twice and suffering one narrow defeat.
In the first game on Friday night, England got off to a quick start and led 38-26 at half-time. The Dutch played better in the second half, but were unable to make any headway, leaving the final score at 70-54 to England. Five English players scored in double figures, led by Luke Nelson with 11. Kinglsey Okoroh, Tyrell Isaacs, Mo Soluade and Tamas Okros all scored 10 points.
The second game on Saturday night was watched by a crowd of 350 people and they were treated to a high-quality, back-and-forth affair. England stormed out to a 8-0 lead, but Netherlands responded dramatically to lead 17-13 at the first break. The Dutch were limited to just 6 points in quarter two as England moved ahead 28-23 at half time, but responded with 26 points in quarter three take a 49-42 lead at the final break. Tyrell Isaacs exploded for 13 points in the final quarter to push the home team to a 71-62 win. Luke Nelson again top scored with 17 points, Nicholas Bohling had 14, Isaacs 13 and Mo Soluade 12.
The final game of the series was reduced to 8 minute quarters to ensure that Dutch squad made their flight back, but the quality of the game was not diminished. Coach Simon Fisher rested a number of key players to give some of the other squad members more exposure, but the teams were still evenly matched with Netherlands winning 48-46 thanks to a successful jump shot in the final 5 seconds. Isaacs led England with 13 points.
Coach Fisher commented: "The victory on Saturday in what was my 100th cap was nice and for the crowd it was a great game to see. Both sets of players should be proud. I was pleased with the attitude of the players, they showed a desire to win. We have to improve and be consistent, but it's a great start."
