Schools And Youth Basketball
The information is designed to assist School Sports Partnerships, Schools Games Organisers and teachers to develop basketball in schools as well as give you access to England Basketball School Competitions for all age groups.
One of the main aims of England Basketball is to increase the number of young people playing basketball in this country. This can best be achieved through the introduction of the sport at a young age. Children from primary school to sixth form and college can benefit from regular sporting activities to enhance physical, mental and social development. Basketball promotes co-ordination, control, teamwork and leadership skills as well as good health and is accessible to all. We hope this section on our website will enable all these benefits to be achieved by the increased participation in the sport.
Basketball can be a rewarding part of the curriculum for many students and teachers. England Basketball has copies of 'Coaching for Teachers Candidates Resource Pack' which are available to teachers and provide help and advice on teaching Basketball as part of the curriculum. These resource packs are available from the England Basketball Shop. This is part of a six hour course but can be purchased separately.
National Schools Competitions and School Games
England Basketball now run the School Competitions at U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 age groups for both boys and girls. The Dynamik National Schools Competitions are a part of the Youth Sports Trust's School Games. England Basketball has worked closely with School Games Organisers to offer multiple level 3 (county) events across the country alongside a vast number of level 2 (inter-school) competitions - particularly in the priority U14 age group.
The
IM Basketball initiative is a perfect tool for level 1 (intra-school) competitions. Please visit the website for more information and a free resource pack.
As part of the
Schools Competition Framework, inter-school games are encouraged. Both friendly and competetive matches will help children to develop social skills alongside their sporting talents.
