Coaches in the Pathway
Coaches are the most important tool in developing players physically, technically, tactically and emotionally/psychologically.
-
Once a qualification is gained all coaches should reference the full version of the Areas of Emphasis: Guidelines to coaches
-
All coaches at whatever level should also set about their own further development through seeking further learning via the internet, attending clinics or becoming involved in the National Development programs
-
The best place to start is by attending Regional Performance Centre sessions where the AoE curriculum for young players is able to be observed. Club coaches can become involved and or assessed within the RPC.
-
Coaches are also encouraged to become part of the Regional Development Program during the club offseason to develop. This can be a first step for those who wish to progress along the performance pathway towards national youth teams or working as a professional basketball coach within an educational institution. It will also help up skill experienced coaches and provide further explanation of the British style of play and key coaching aspects for player development.
-
Coaches who volunteer their time within the RPC, RDP or National Development programs are further encouraged through access to learning opportunities like the 2013 coaches visit to Serbia.
