It has been recognised for some time that the development of clubs is a priority in order to ensure the continued growth of basketball in England. England Basketball, in partnership with Sport England, has a clear objective to 'Encourage young people to take up sport, improve their sporting talents and continue life-long participation in sport.'

England Basketball has established criteria for achieving Sport England - England Basketball Clubmark, to enable clubs to become recognised both locally and nationally for their development in players, officials and volunteers. In addition basketball clubs that achieve Clubmark have access to the Clubmark Incentive Scheme (see below) and they will also receive priority with regard to other funding opportunities provided by England Basketball.

Further details of the Clubmark scheme are available at the Clubmark website - www.clubmark.org.uk.

To complement the Clubmark award, England Basketball has developed it's own Star Accreditation Scheme. Any club working to achieve Clubmark must also meet the criteria for 3-Star accreditation.

Clubmark Incentive Scheme

The payments to affiliated basketball clubs who achieve the Sport England - England Basketball Clubmark award are as follows -
  • Clubmark - £500
  • Clubmark & EB 4-Star accreditation - £1,000
  • Clubmark & EB 5-Star accreditation - £1,500
In addition there will be payments to clubs that have already achieved Sport England - England Basketball Clubmark accreditation and now improve their England Basketball Star rating -
  • From 3-Star to 4-Star - £600
  • From 4-Star to 5-Star - £900
In addition for the 2012/13 season Clubmark clubs are entitled to a grant* based on the number of members within their club affiliated to England Basketball who have a valid Email address. For every member born on or before August 31 1996 (i.e. over 15) with a valid Email address, the club will receive £5. The grant will be based on the number of members registered with the club prior to January 31 2013 and includes those whose details are provided on a volunteer information form.

Please note that deadline for completion of registrations to be included in the scheme has been moved forward in the year to the end of January.

*If a club had reduced in membership either in the 12/13 or previous seasons, England Basketball reserved the right to offset the amount of their grant against previous Clubmark Incentive Scheme payments.

If your club is interested in working towards Clubmark accreditation please complete a Clubmark Audit form and return it to the relevant Basketball Development Officer or if you do not have a BDO, return it to our Club Development Officer, Matt Baird.

Note

It should be noted that in the event of a club's registered membership declining by 20% or more, without good reason (which shall be determined at the discretion of England Basketball), within four years of obtaining a Clubmark Incentive Scheme payment, England Basketball reserves the right to recoup from the club the amount of the payment received.
