Following yesterday's 99-79 win over Sheffield Sharks, Newcastle Eagles now lead the league, on 46 points and a 23-5 record.

 

The key for the Eagles in this big game, their thirteenth consecutive win in all competitions, was keeping two-time Molten BBL Player of the Month, Mike Cook, down to just 14 points, and sharpshooter Ryan Patton to 11 points, whilst Matt Gorman had 13 points. For the Eagles, Reggie 'Action' Jackson scored 24 points, GB Captain Andrew Sullivan had 23 points, and Joe Chapman continued his impressive form to land 18 points.

 

Whilst Cook had a quiet night by his standards, another Molten BBL Player of the Month Tafari Toney, who won the award for February, had a productive night with 22 points.

 

Also yesterday, Marshall MK Lions and Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders put on a spectacle for a packed out thecentre: mk, as the Riders eventually snatched victory, thanks to Bradd Wierzbicki shooting 2/2 from the free throw line and Jason Johnson making 4/4 to see the game out, despite Robert Youngblood's triple which made it 101-104 after a period of overtime.

Johnson led the victors with a 27 point haul, Wierzbicki had 25 points and Lataryl Williams scored 23 points. However, BBL veteran Yorick Williams stole the show with ten three pointers on his way to 36 points personal for the Lions. Sunday's action was topped off by Glasgow Rocks, who had no trouble disposing of PAWS London Capital 85-62.

 

Following Friday evening's set of Semi Finals, in which the Eagles sealed their place in the Final with a 91-96 second leg victory, and Marshall MK Lions gained an edge with an 80-79 win over Cheshire Jets, Saturday saw the Jets bounce back to gain revenge on Essex Pirates by beating them 72-84.

 

Also, Guildford Heat came from behind to beat Worthing Thunder 101-104, and Airwaves Plymouth Raiders overcame Worcester Wolves 94-83, as the fight for that eight Playoff spot intensifies each week.
